Wedding Day Glow

“Pre-Wedding Beauty Regime” by Founder of Vida Glow, Anna Lahey

I started mine nine months before our big day. I had really bad experience with active facials that made my skin very red and sore. Did I mention that these new herbal active facials were double the price? Oh and that they convinced me to buy all the products to compliment my facials and to gain the best results? Argh!

As a Bride to be we can get seriously carried away with all the promises and magazine articles selling beauty and convincing that we need products that trust me – we do not need. I was taking one to two sachets of Vida Glow a day just as maintenance, my skin, hair and nails were incredible healthy as I’d been taking Vida Glow religiously for about a year.

After going through that experience and having the therapist suggest to do laser (even gullible bride me knew that I did NOT need that) my skin was worse than it had ever been. I instantly went back to my organic skincare products and cleansing, toning and moisturising every morning and evening. I also used a gentle exfoliator once a week to remove any complexion dulling dead skin cells and followed with a hydrating mask. I increased my Vida Glow to three sachets a day – this was six months out from our wedding day.

So given this saga (yes there were tears), my advice would be… if you are thinking of or have been given advice to change your beauty regime – do it early, at least nine months out. Had I tried this three months out I would have been terribly upset.

I suggest keeping it simple. It’s not rocket science! My regime from six months onwards was simple. I drank enough water for my body, usually 30ml per kilo is recommended. Hydration is key! I ate clean, whole and healthy foods and I went very easy on alcohol, sugar and dropped my coffees to only one day. Of course pre-wedding celebrations did include all of the above.

The most important element by far in my preparation was Vida Glow. My skin healed in two weeks once I changed the dose to three sachets day. This obviously also had an amazing impact on my hair and nails.

Ultimately you want to look like the best version of YOU on your wedding day!

Having gone through a bad experience in the lead up was a blessing in disguise. It made me realise that I had the control on how I looked and most importantly how I felt. If you make a conscience decision to nourish yourself from within as naturally as you can, there’s no doubt that you will GLOW.

A smooth, radiant complexion that’s glowing with health and vitality is achievable if you embark on a beauty regime early on, six months is sufficient.

The easiest and most effective way to improve your complexion is to drink water, to hydrate your skin and flush out toxins from your system. Add a slice of lemon, cucumber, and fresh berries and of course a sachet of marine collagen. A really healthy tip that was passed on to me by a friend’s mother was half a lime (yes lime) squeezed in warm water in the morning. It does wonders clearing my skin if I get the occasional breakout. The couple of weeks before the wedding this is quite common, because we’re most likely stressed.

Treat yourself to a facial. Skin cells renew themselves every 28 days, so this is a great once-a-month treat. This is your skin’s way of getting rid of impurities, and better now than on the day. Given my experience, I would recommend getting your first facial at least six months prior to your wedding to see how your skin reacts and avoid one too close to the day.

My big love prior to our wedding and what got my whole skin, not just on my face in peak honeymoon bikini condition was dry brushing all over with a natural bristle brush. I started this once a week but as I began seeing results I increased it to 3 – 4 times a week. Start at your feet and work upwards in long, firm strokes towards your heart. Follow with a natural moisturising body lotion. Your skin will feel smoother. Another handy tip to get your body silky smooth is by exfoliating with a scrub once a week. Massage over damp skin in small, circular motions, shower off and apply body lotion.

The reason I harp on about the natural stuff is become I try and avoid parabens and chemicals playing havoc with my liver.

Now don’t neglect your feet, especially if you’re having a beach wedding or getting married in the summer and wearing strappy sandals or open-toed shoes. Smooth your feet with a scrub or foot file every few days to stop rough skin building up and get into the habit of moisturising them every night, KORA Organics does a great one or almond oil does the trick.

Your hands and nails will be on show on the wedding day. Get them ready for that ring-on-the-finger moment by rubbing almond oil into your cuticles every night to keep them moisturised and healthy. If your nails are brittle and prone to breaking, taking three servings of Vida Glowa day will work wonders for you. Get into the habit of using hand cream whenever you wash your hands and always wear rubber gloves when you do the dishes. Remember that your hands and neck are the first area of skin to show the signs of ageing – so don’t forgot to wear an SPF.

Treat yourself to a professional feel-good spa treatment, such as a massage or seaweed wrap to detox, distress and relax – you deserve it! This was such a huge stress relief for me, the four weeks before our wedding I must have had five. I also had continuous nightmares about all sorts of things going wrong, i.e. the cake being squashed in transit and the flowers not showing up. Ha! The good news is that you can relieve tired eyes by covering them with cooling slices of cucumber or teaspoons that have been chilled in the fridge and lie down for five minutes with your feet higher than your head. Soothe and tone your skin at the same time by smoothing nutrient-rich honey over your face and neck. Leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

I also had my eyebrows professionally shaped at a beauty salon. You’ll be amazed what a difference it makes to your appearance and it’s easy to keep them tidy afterwards. If you’re in Australia, Amy Jean Eye Couture is Ah – Maz – Zing! My brows had never looked better.

Make sure you have a delicious and nutritious meal the night before, I was so on cloud nine that I only managed to eat the Wedding Cake.

Finally, when you get to the DAY, I would highly recommend taking an hour to yourself before the madness kicks in with parents, bridesmaids, hair, makeup etc. Everyone told me that the day goes so fast, and it does! I asked my friends to pull me aside every few hours and ask me what was my favourite part so far; it was so lovely to have those moments.

The hour to myself beforehand was a Godsend. I put my favourite candle on, sipped on tea and Vida Glow, played Lana Del Ray which was the album that my husband and I fell in love listening to, had a really relaxing bath/shower and got some time to regroup and reflect on all the wonderful reasons why I was marrying this spectacular man.

Weddings are about love; your love for each other, love for your families and appreciation about all the good in your life. It’s so easy to get caught up on the minor details, so I hope that over the course of your planning and sometimes stressful hiccups, you’ll be filled with lots of those delicious moments of acknowledging and appreciating how amazing this time in your life is.

My wedding really was the BEST day of my life!

Wishing you all the very best during this exciting time. If you have any beauty or wedding questions please email
