It’s not easy, I know, but far too often caffeine is used to suppress fatigue and supplement proper energy intake from food. This can cause a cycle of chronic tiredness and interfering with sleep patterns. Many of us are also reliant on coffee to get our bowels moving in the morning, causing a dependence on caffeine which is not ideal.
Going caffeine free for a week, can be challenging. Especially if you skip breakfast and have a coffee instead – which is a BIG NO NO! If this is you, you’ll need to plan breakfast options such as:
- Fruit with Greek style yoghurt and a dash of honey sprinkled with two teaspoons of Beauty Blend
- Toast with Avocado and Grilled Haloumi
- Rolled oats, dried fruits and nuts for a delicious homemade muesli
- Hard boiled eggs and sautéed spinach and mushroom
Water is essential for helping your body flush out toxins. Up your water intake and aim for 2L a day. If you’re drinking a lot less than that right now, aim for 250ml increases per day. Cut out other forms of fluids like alcohol, cordial, soft drinks, and energy drinks. Keep water at your desk and have regular sips.
Detox your body of refined sugars by having NO sweets.
Including; chocolates, biscuits, cakes, lollies, processed spreads, dips and sauces. Sugars are added in a wide range of foods, so read the labels and ingredients and watch out for hidden names of sugars such as sucrose, fructose, dextrose, maltose, rice syrup, corn syrup and malt among many others.
FRUITS & VEGETABLES
Go green, and red, and yellow and really colourful! Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables and get back to basics by eating real, nourishing, non-processed foods which are rich in vitamins and minerals. Yes, there is fructose in fruit, but if you are going for the real thing, an apple raw, then it’s natural sugar that your body knows what to do with.
The fibre in fruits and vegetables is perfect for cleansing your body. Aim for two different types of fruits, and 5 different types of vegetables.
ONE WEEK AT A TIME
“They” say it takes 21 weeks to create a habit. Which doesn’t seem like a long time on paper, but we say, take it one week at a time. Try to stick to the above for 7 days. The first 3 days are usually the hardest. If at the end of 7 days you feel you can keep going, then DO and don’t give yourself a treat. No need to reward yourself with food, you are not a dog.
Chances are by the end of the 14th day you’ll be feeling pretty good and the next 7 days will be a lot easier, and before you know you would have created a new habit.
Preparation is Key
Go grocery shopping prior to starting your new healthy eating regime. Ensure you have a healthy variety of food in your pantry and fridge. We also suggest, chucking out unhealthy foods. Spring Clean your cupboards!!
Make sure that whenever you go grocery shopping you are NOT hungry. Do it after breakfast or lunch. Going on an empty stomach usually means you’ll snack on something lacking nutrients, high in sugar and convenient. It also means that you’ll make bad shopping choices, and become the new proud owner of aisle 4.
Don’t forget to continue with your marine collagen supplementation.
