Not only are almonds a tasty treat, they are packed with fibre, vitamins, minerals and protein. Almonds are a species of tree that originated in West Asia’s Middle Eastern region, and are surprisingly part of the apple and peach family.
Almonds are a great way to achieve consumption of the daily-recommended protein intake and a great snack, a handful of almonds are much better than some of those chocolate biscuits that may tempt you! However, we don’t often think about the physical effects of almonds and what the benefits are for our skin. Here are some notable ways our skin can benefit from almonds, and a delicious recipe you might want to include in your morning routine!
Protection and youthfulness
Almonds are packed with the miracle worker; Vitamin E, which is a great antioxidant and is extremely nourishing for the skin. One of the key skin benefits is the way it can enhance the protective barrier to fight against the sun’s UV rays and ageing. This is a great way to defend the skin against fine lines and wrinkles, and prolong your youthful glow. Almonds can also be used as a natural moisturiser when soaked and mashed together and applied directly to the face due to the naturally moisturising qualities it contains.
Acne and dark circles
For those of you searching for a natural acne fighter, almonds might just be your lucky charm. When used as an oil and applied to the face, the high content of Vitamin A can work to dislodge impurities, remove dead skin cells and dirt in the pores while keeping the skin soft and supple. This is due to the extremely thin nature of the oil, which allows it to deeply penetrate the skin and get into all the nooks and crannies where dirt can hide and cause problems. Almond oil is also a great natural remedy for combatting dark circles and dry skin under the eye. Simply warm up the oil to body temperature in your fingers then massage lightly into the under-eye area before you go to bed at night for best results.
The beauty of almonds is that they can be consumed or used in so many ways. Milk and butter are some of the most popular ways it can be used in everyday consumption for a healthier alternative, while oils, masks and scrubs are a natural way of achieving skin benefits directly added to the skin surface.
